The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B sets new standards in performance, features and possible areas of application. With the Pi4, the Raspberry Pi Foundation 2019 is bringing the most powerful and most comprehensive single computer board on the market to date. The list of features reads like a detailed list of modern PCs. With the real Gigabit LAN, the Raspberry Pi 4 board opens up a wealth of other areas of application and enables completely new possibilities, especially in the multimedia area. USB ports for peripherals are available in USB version 2.0 (2 pieces) and also version 3.0. This is particularly noticeable when connecting external hard drives. The processor now enables the playback of 4K content and this even on 2 (micro) HDMI ports! Streams can be decrypted in H.264 and even H.265. Depending on the number of monitors connected (Micro-HDMI adapter required!), the frame rate is up to 60 images. But “old acquaintances”, such as the combined jack connection, with analog stereo audio and composite video and of course the ports for the official display or the Raspberry Pi cameras, can also be found on the board. The GPIO interface enables the connection of previous HAT extensions and of course also the PoE HAT extension. The 4-pin connection for the PoE power supply is also available here (PoE is an optional accessory!). The board has remained completely HAT compatible, so the dimensions and holes correspond to those of the previous models. However, since new connections and positions were made when populating ports, the previous housings can no longer be used with the RPi4. Housings for this model are of course available. These can be ordered in the usual color combinations, i.e. red/white and black. However, the renewed increase in performance also requires a new energy supply. Unfortunately, the previously common MicroUSB power supply can no longer be used for this model. This requires the purchase of a USB TYPE-C power supply. The voltage on the USB-C connector should be 5V and the possible current should be 3A. We recommend using the official power supply to avoid problems. The plug-in power supplies are also available in the previous colors that match the housing. The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B is equipped with a Broadcom 2711, quad-core CortexA72 64-bit SoC @ 1.5GHz.
